ScamBare is free to use, needs no account, and is built so that the safest thing we can do with your data is not collect it in the first place. This page explains exactly what that means in practice.
The short version

What we collect
Scam Text Checker
When you run a message through the Scam Text Checker, the message is analysed and then discarded. We do not keep the raw text, the sender details, or any copy of what you pasted.
What we do keep is an anonymous record of the outcome: the verdict (safe, suspicious, likely scam, or dangerous), the scam category, a numeric risk score, and a timestamp. That record contains no message content and nothing that identifies you. It exists so we can see which scam types are surging and write about them.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the ScamBare newsletter, your email address is stored with our email provider for the sole purpose of sending you scam alerts and new guides. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address.
Games, generator, and preferences
Best scores in Spot the Scam, Inbox Zero, the Password Game, and the Phishing Quiz are written to your browser's local storage. Passwords created in the Password Generator are produced entirely inside your browser. None of this data is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand which pages and tools people find useful. We do not build user profiles, fingerprint devices, or run advertising pixels.
What we never collect

- Data sold or shared with advertising networks
Third parties we rely on
We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the site: hosting and database services, an email provider for the newsletter, an AI provider that performs the deep analysis of a submitted message, and Google Fonts for typefaces. Each processes only what it needs to do its job, and none receives personal data for its own marketing.
How long we keep things
Anonymous scan outcomes are retained in aggregate. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. There is nothing else tied to you to retain.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold, and to object to processing. In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold is a newsletter email address. Email privacy@scambare.com and we will action a request promptly.
Children
ScamBare is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change affects subscribers, mention it in the newsletter.
